(MENAFN) An official statement read that 17 students of the University of Bamenda in Cameroon, whom were kidnapped Dec. 5 to 10, have been freed.
Lafrique, governor of Northwest, one of the restive English-speaking regions of Cameroon declared: "Following coordinated operations organised by the administrative authorities, forces of law and order, the parents of the kidnapped students and some patriotic citizens living in the neighborhood, the release of all the students has been secured as of date."
He added that the students were kidnapped by a "criminal gang" that is especially formed to abduct students for ransom.
Lafrique added that students and university authorities have to intensify awareness and collaborate with government forces as steps to eliminate the kidnaps.
