Pakistan- Two players from Landikotal to participate in US Junior squash championship

LANDIKOTAL: Two squash players from Landikotal left for United States on Wednesday to participate in the US Junior open squash championship being played in Boston and Massachusetts from December 15 to 18.

Talking to media, Dirctor General Sports Khyber Pakhunkhwa Junaid Khan said Haris Khan Shinwari and Abdul Ahad Khan Shinwari were the first Pakistani players from erstwhile Fata who qualified for Pakistani squash team which will participate in US Junior Squash Championship.

Junaid Khan said that he feel honor to have tribal players participating in the world big event. He thanked the team coaches and officials for selecting a best team and wished his good wishes to the players and said that he was optimistic that Pakistan would win gold in the championship.

Fata Olympic Association president Shahid Shinwari said tribal players have talent to find place in different national teams and people of the tribal belt got the first fruit of the Fata merger with KP by having Haris and Ahad selected in the Pakistani team which would participate in the international event.

He said the six players including a girl were inducted in the Pakistani squash team after getting tough training sessions and going through qualifying rounds.

Fata Olympic Association president Shahid Khan Shinwari and Fata squash president Asad Khan Shinwari met with the squash team who secured place in Pakistani on Tuesday night. To honor the players and sports officials a dinner party was also arranged by the officials of the two sports associations.

Talking on the occasion, Asad Khan Shinwari appealed to Pakistani citizens especially people from Landikotal to offer special prayers for Haris and Ahad to win gold for Pakistan in the event.

Head coach Falak Naz and assistant coach Alam Zeb were optimistic and said that the players were passed through tough training and physically well prepared during the past one year training sessions. Falak said Haris Shinwari is well fit and hoped he would show his best performance in the International championship.

For the first time in history, Tribal districts quash team participating in an International squash competitions.

Laiba Ijaz Ahmad hailing from Peshawar is the only girl player in the Pakistani team that left for US to represent the country in the US Junior Open Squash Championship.
