(MENAFN) An Egyptian soldier and 27 militants were murdered amid a continuing security operation conducted in the restive Sinai Peninsula and western Egypt, according to the Egyptian military on Wednesday.
In statement, military spokesman Col. Tamer Rifai emphasized that 61 vehicles were damaged and three militants murdered near Egypt's west-northern border.
He stated that another 24 militants were murdered in an exchange of fire, without determining the exact site of clashes.
According to the spokesman, over 400 suspected militants and offenders were detained as part of the operation.
