Syria opposition praise Turkish effort over maintain Sochi truce deal

(MENAFN) Nasr Hariri, the leader of the opposition Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC), has praised Turkish efforts for preserving the Sochi truce agreement on the northwestern Idlib province.

In exclusive statements to Anadolu Agency, Hariri stated the Sochi agreement has remained standing thanks to Turkey's efforts.

After a September 17 meeting in Sochi between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, both parties decided to form a demilitarized zone - in which acts of violence are specifically prohibited - in Syria's Idlib province.

According to the terms of the agreement, opposition groups in Idlib will stay in areas in which they already exist, while Russia and Turkey will carry out mutual patrols in the area with a view to preventing a continuation of fighting.
