(MENAFN) The International Crisis Group declared that a previous Canadian diplomat has been arrested in China and are in efforts to ensure his freedom.
Michael Kovrig's arrest take place after police in Canada nabbed the chief financial officer of China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd [HWT.UL] on Dec. 1 at the order of .S. authorities, anaction that triggered Beijing's outrage.
It was not confirmed whether the lawsuits were linked, however, the detention of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou in Vancouver has raised concerns of reprisals against the foreign business community in China.
