Germany temporary bans pet adoption ahead of Christmas

(MENAFN) Germany has issued a temporary ban on animal adoptions in efforts to limit offering animals as presents in Christmas.

Dozens of shelters have informed possible pet owners that no animal will be sold in the upcoming event.

Berlin's shelter, the largest in Europe, confirmed: "Animals are living beings with needs and feelings. They are not suitable as surprise gifts."

"The decision to keep an animal must not be taken lightly - the whole family must be involved in the decision-making process," according to Claudia H"mmerling from the city's animal protection association.
