(MENAFN) A local official declared that over 8 policemen and 11 Taliban militants have died after gunfights broke out in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar overnight.
provincial government spokesman Aziz Ahmad Azizi confirmed: "Scores of armed militants stormed security checkpoints in Sandarz locality of Arghistan district, triggering heavy clashes between attackers and police personnel manning the checkpoints, lasting for hours."
He added that the militants were retaliated after additional security forces were called to the scene.
Many militants have been injured as well in the clashes.
