(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Global Shapers Community (GSC) Muscat hosted this year's Shape MENA after winning the bid and hosting rights. Shape MENA is the regional gathering of the Global Shapers Community in the Middle East and North Africa region.
With the main theme of creating shared value, over 100 global shapers from 60 countries took part in panels and workshops to discuss the three pillars: people, planet and productivity. The discussions that were held were in the context of the current affairs and aspirations of young people in the region.
Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidi, secretary general in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke about coexistence and the role of the sultanate in creating shared value. The sessions were conducted by eminent speakers representing various fields and industries including government, art, culture and volunteerism.
A few of the main speakers included senior director for Strategic Affairs in the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court, Mona Hammami, Emmy nominated journalist and senior correspondent at AJ+, Ahmed Shihab-Eldin, renewable energy expert and founder of Hussam Technology company, Firas al Abduwani, and humanitarian activist and winner of Pioneering Arab Woman Award, Maali al Asousi.
Abdullahi Alim, community manager of the Global Shapers Community in Middle East & North Africa said, 'This Shape MENA was a phenomenal experience for us as participants and the World Economic Forum at large. I look forward to sharing these learnings with the Forum to help inform our programming in the coming year. The Muscat Hub has set a new standard.'
Samah al Rawahi, curator of the Muscat Hub, said, 'We are proud to have been able to host Shape MENA in Muscat this year. We have had a total of almost 500 applications to join this exciting event, from over 60 countries spanning all continents of the globe.'
She added, 'Getting Global Shapers to share their perspective with us during the past three days has been phenomenal. It was a reflection of the values that we portray of Oman, showcasing hospitality, cultural cohesion, and sense of community.'
The GSC is an initiative of the World Economic Forum, a worldwide network of Hubs, or groups of youths, developed and led by promising young leaders, or Shapers, who want to build on their achievements and entrepreneurial drive to make a positive contribution to their communities. The Muscat Hub, founded in 2012, represents Omanis and residents of Muscat from all walks of life who are united by a common desire to channelise their energy into having a positive local impact.
