Amman, Dec.10 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, called for dealing with the Syrian crisis according to new approaches that take into account the facts on the ground, aim to end the crisis and help Syrians regain their security and stability.
In a joint press statement with the United Nations Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, Safadi said "A new page must be opened in dealing with the crisis."
"There is an unacceptable absence of the Arab role in the efforts to resolve the crisis," Safadi said. He stressed the importance of a positive Arab role that would help reach a political solution acceptable to Syrians and ends the catastrophe that Syria, the region and the world continue to suffer.
He reiterated Jordan's firm position that emphasizes on reaching political solution to the Syrian crisis.
"We in Jordan continue to do all we can to end the crisis and restore security and stability to Syria," Safadi noted.
The foreign minister lauded efforts of the UN envoy, who will be resigning in the coming weeks.
Responding to a question about the Rukban refugee camp in Syria, the foreign minister underlined the Kingdom's position that the issue should be dealt with in a Syrian-UN context.
He indicated that the core solution to the Rukban issue is to secure the return of its residents to their villages and towns, stressing that Rukban camp is not a Jordanian responsibility.
De Mistura, in turn, expressed appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah's efforts and continued support to end the Syrian crisis.
As the end of his term as UN envoy to Syria, de Mistura said it was necessary to make an additional effort and explore every means to push forward the political process in Syria.
"In order to achieve what everyone wants - stability in Syria - we need a credible political process," he added.
He noted that on December 20, he will submit an important report to the Security Council containing an assessment of the efforts to form the Constitutional Commission.
