Turkmen delegation discusses issues of statelessness in Minsk

Delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the work of international conference which is organized by Executive Committee of CIS and Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) related with the issues of statelessness, Trend reports via State Migration Service of Turkmenistan.

During the conference, the reports of member states of CIS on accumulated experience related with issues of reduction of statelessness were read out.

Representative of Turkmenistan informed about the work on migration issues, interaction and corporation with international organizations and structures.

The UNHCR highly appreciated the work of Turkmenistan Government related with reduction of number of stateless people.

In November 2014, the UNHCR approved global action plan on elimination of statelessness for the period 2014-2024, which was enshrined in the resolution of the UN General Assembly.

This year 735 people become the citizens of Turkmenistan, permanently residing in the territory of the state, who do not have citizenship and are representatives of various nationalities.

During the period of 2011-2017, 8 145 people were accepted to the citizenship of Turkmenistan.
