Qatar no longer largest LNG exporter in the world

(MENAFN) Qatar is no longer the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), as Australia snatched the title.

According to data Refinitiv Eikon issued on Monday, Qatar's exports of LNG reached 6.2 million tonnes last month, while Australia was able to achieve 6.5 million tonnes.

Analyst Neil Beveridge affirmed: "Qatar, of course, will respond and we expect a new wave of projects to be launched which will see Qatar regain its position as the leading exporter by the early 2020s."

Qatar has set out a target to hit 100 million tonnes of LNG per day, a surge from its 77 million tonnes of LNG capacity per year, through establishing a fourth output line.
