Qatar Superstock will be the best in Middle East, says Sports Minister

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali has expressed the hope that the Qatar Superstock 600 series will develop into the best event of its kind in the region.
In a press statement while attending the first round of the event at Losail International Circuit, HE al-Ali said that Qatar has the ability to make this tournament the largest and most important in the region through increasing investments and attracting leading riders. He added that the organisers want the competition to develop annually and achieve sustainability through high participation.
HE the Minister expressed his delight at the large number of riders who took part in the event and was particularly happy that there were lots of entries from Kuwait, Australia and Hungary.
He praised the Losail Circuit Sports Club for organising events that help the youth develop their skills and giving them a safe environment to compete in prestigious competitions.
He said that the championship has achieved great success despite being only in its third year, pointing out that it welcomed new faces. This fact confirms the competition has made great progress over the past two years.
The Minister lauded Losail Circuit Sports Club for establishing the Qatar Motorsports Academy, saying it was a pleasure for him to visit it and learn about its work, especially as it offers the opportunity to children to enjoy motorcycling.
He added that the academy emphasises the role of the State of Qatar in sports, as it includes 71 children of different nationalities who were selected out of the 211 children.
He pointed out that 25 of the 71 children were Qatari and it represents a remarkable success.
He stressed that the academy aims to co-operate with other academies around the world, as well as expand its scope in the future by training aspiring four-wheel racers, especially as Qatar has many heroes in this sport, notably Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah.
HE the Minister said that this academy will be able over time to attract riders from abroad, especially Europe, as Qatar offers appropriate weather during the European winter.
