Madaba, Dec. 9 (Petra) Jordan has ratified the Charter for the Protection of the Byzantine Heritage Monuments during its participation in the 4th International Conference on "Byzantine Monuments and World Heritage," held in the Greek city of Thessaloniki, from 30 November to 2 December.

Director of the Madaba Institute for Mosaic Art, Ahmad Amayra, and Director of Madaba Antiquities, Basim Mahameed, who participated in the three-day event, spoke at a press conference at the Institute of Mosaics in Madaba on Sunday, saying the charter has a set of goals and measures to preserve Byzantine monuments in a bid to display this heritage for future generations as a human product of the Mediterranean region.

They noted Jordan's step helps preserve Byzantine cultural product, and reflects its commitment to safeguard the human heritage.

They said Jordan's ratification of the charter has tourism dimensions, as it is home to Byzantine monuments, which encourages visitors to flock these archeological sites.
