French police detain over 1,700 protesters in latest 'yellow vest' protests

(MENAFN) Over 1,700 protesters were detained across France during the newest "yellow vest" demonstrations as they clashing with riot police caused more destruction in Paris than a week ago, officials stated on Sunday.

Clashes broke out in the French capital and other cities, containing Marseille, Bordeaux, Lyon and Toulouse, during a fourth weekend of nationwide demonstrations against increasing living costs and President Emmanuel Macron in general.

The embattled president - whose name rang out across the Champs-Elysees as demonstrators shouted "Macron, resign" - is predictable to address the protests in a much-anticipated speech in the coming days.

The ministry stated, 1,220 of the 1,723 arrested were ordered held in custody.
