EU offers Egypt USD 63.6 mln in grants to finance development projects


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- Egypt and European Union inked Saturday two grant agreements at a total value of EUR 55.8 million (about USD 63.6 million) to finance sanitation and renewable energy projects. In a press statement, the Egyptian government said the first grant, worth EUR 45.8 million or USD 52.2 million, would be used to support the mega sanitation project, known as the Kitchener Drain depollution project.

The project aims at the depollution of the 69 km long Kitchener Drain, which extends across the Governorates of Gharbia, Kafr El-Sheikh and Dakahlia in the Nile Delta region.

The second grant, worth EUR 10 million or USD 11.4 million), and would be used to help finance Egypt reforms in water and renewable energy sectors. (end) aff.rg.ibi
