MENAFN- Asia Times) A Philippine short film about the Tubbataha Reef was named the best biodiversity preservation tourism film at this year's Zagreb TourFilm Festival in Croatia, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs announced this week.
The film Tubbataha: A National Treasure, directed by Placido Falsario, advocates the need to protect the Tubbataha Reef Natural Park off the island of Palawan, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
The film showcased the UNESCO-inscribed World Heritage Site that boasts of the magnificent diversity of marine life to prove that the world under the sea is so different from the one above it, yet is familiar.
This is the first Philippine production to win an award at the Zagreb TourFilm Festival, which rewards films and audiovisual productions that promote tourism. The festival, which ran from October 10 to 12 this year, featured more than a hundred short films from all over the world.
The film received the award for best biodiversity preservation tourism film, which was received on October 12 on behalf of the production team by the Philippines' honorary consul to Croatia, Davor Stern.
