Fifty-one illegal migrants rescued off coast Izmir - Anadolu Agency



(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- The Turkish Coast Guard, on Wednesday, rescued 51 illegal immigrants off the coast of Turkey's Aegean province of Izmir, said Anadolu Agency.

The Coast Guard said the illegal immgrants' motor boat broke down in the sea when they were trying to cross to Greece.

Turkey has been the main route for refugees trying to cross into Europe, especially since the beginning of the civil war in Syria.

Some 205,000 irregular migrants were held in Turkey in 2018 as of October 15, according to the Interior Ministry. (end) rs.aa.lr
