Libya: 15 migrants die in boat capsize


(MENAFN) The Libyan Red Crescent declared hat 15 illegal immigrants have died when their boat sank off the city of Misurata, some 250 km east of the capital Tripoli.

Baha al-Kawash, Libyan Red Crescent spokesman added: "A rubber boat capsized off Misurata coast carrying 25 illegal immigrants. 15 migrants drowned, while 10 others survived after reaching Misurata shore."

Othman Belbeisi, chief of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) mission in Libya, confirmed that the 10 migrants sustained extreme dehydration.

"Only 10 survivors suffering from severe dehydration taken to detention center, IOM Libya doctors and emergency team on the way. Alarming we still do not see solid steps to address irregular unsafe movements across MedSea (Mediterranean Sea)," according to Belbeisi.
