(MENAFN) Nachirvan Barzani was named by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on Monday as its presidency nominee.
The KDP decided to have the incumbent prime minister fight for the post of president of the semi-autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq.
The KDP also chose head of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG)'s Security Council, Masrour Barzani, as its nominee to compete for the position of prime minister.
The nominees were declared in Erbil on Monday by party spokesman Mahmoud Mohammed during a news conference
