University Expo Qatar attracts over 50 institutions

Doha: More than 50 prestigious universities, colleges and academic institutions representing over 15 countries are participating in the 8th edition of the University Expo Qatar, which kicked off yesterday at Qatar National Convention Center.

The two-day Expo aims to enhance the role of the private sector to promote and develop education, and also offers outstanding educational opportunities for students by choosing the universities they want.

The expo allows students and parents to attend over 15 seminars to get personalised advice and detailed explanations concerning any questions or issues they may have about higher education as well as studying overseas. The event is being organised by Informa Tharawat in partnership with Qatar Chamber, under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

'The expo gives opportunities to distinguished universities as well as offers a number of options to students. The expo is a success at all levels either in terms of a number of participating universities or the number of visitors, Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the expo, the Minister said that the University Expo Qatar is important for young students to attend.'Our strategy is to enhance education within the state of Qatar by providing a variety of choices to students in Qatar, whether this is through private and public universities. As you see, there are more than 41 universities in Qatar and we are hoping to increase this over the coming years.

'The students should keep abreast of the changes in the field of scientific and literary disciplines, conditions and requirements of admission and other topics, he noted.

Qatar Chamber Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Towar Al Kuwari said that Qatar Chamber supports the private educational sector and supports the State's directions in implementing its policies and vision regarding the educational sector.

He also noted that the Expo is a contribution from the private sector to give students a number of options to study in many universities, and this expo is a specialised exhibition in which many universities and institutes are participating and 'we expect more in the coming years.

Over 3,000 visitors visited the expo yesterday, according to its website.

Mohammed Al Obaidly, Board Member, Informa Tharawat said: 'We are very pleased with the first day's attendance at University Expo Qatar and are thrilled to see many more young people and professionals engaging with universities for information on higher education, scholarship programmes, as well as financial management for studying abroad.

University Expo Qatar is a comprehensive two-day exhibition attended by students aged 16 plus who are considering their higher education options, as well as their parents and teachers. Hosting 41 plus regional and international universities, colleges and vocational training centres, a live seminar room and a lively social area, you'll have the chance to meet and engage with your next intake of students from Qatar and the wider Middle East.
