Oman- SASLO Legal Training Center to host labour forum on December 10, 11

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- SASLO Legal Training Center (SLTC) is set to host the first Labour Forum on December 10 and 11 in Muscat. Each edition of the annual forum addresses different sectors.

'This year's forum will be dedicated to the oil and gas sector as it is a sector that can create sustainable and attractive jobs for many citizens,' said Said al Shahry, founder of SLTC and prominent lawyer.

The forum will highlight topics on enhancing the work environment in the oil and gas sector with specific reference to labour law. The oil and gas sector, being the largest contributor to the economy of Oman, has its own challenges when it comes to understanding and applying the provisions of the labour law.

The purpose of the forum is to bring together all stakeholders of the oil and gas sector – employees, employers and worker representatives – to share their respective experiences, views and challenges with the objective of creating a healthy dialogue among parties.

There will be international speakers from the Federation of Trade Unions in Bahrain and Kuwait, besides experts from the local industry and Oman Society for Petroleum Services. Important recommendations shared at the forum will be compiled and shared with the appropriate authorities in Oman, as well as published in the media and important periodicals.

'In the subsequent years other emerging sectors such as tourism, logistics, finance, etc will be covered. In the end, the ultimate objective is to create awareness, understand practical issues of the sector and bring all the stakeholders closer with a view to enhance the work environment and productivity,' Shahry added.

SLTC, which was established in 2008, is a pioneer and the first of its kind legal training centre in Oman. Since its inception, it has contributed to legal awareness by organising more than 250 workshops, awareness campaigns and seminars. It has trained more than 6,000 legal and non-legal executives in various aspects of law, labour law being its most popular programme. The annual forum comes as part of the ongoing work of SLTC.
