Great Mosque of Algiers, third largest in the world


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Photo feature By Malik Raddad ALGIERS, Nov 22 (KUNA) -- Great Mosque of Algiers, is the third largest mosque in the world after the Great Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet's Mosque in Madina, with a minaret of 265 meters in height as the world's tallest.

Algeria has allocated nearly USD two billion to build the mosque in Mohammedia city at the Algerian capital, on 20 hectares (about 400,000 meter), which includes a 22,000-square meter praying hall that can hold a capacity of about 36,000 people.

The Mosque has its own library, which can host 6,000 people at a time, a Quran school, a museum that documents a specific historical era of Islam, a research center, a conference hall and gardens. (end) mr.mk.ss
