Yemeni children at risk to die of famine

(MENAFN) At least 85,000 kids under the age of 5 in Yemen have starving to death since the war began, Save the Children, a rights group, reported on Wednesday.

Using data amassed by the UN, the group discovered that between April 2015 and October 2018, about 84,701 children fewer than 5 passed away due to cases of severe serious malnutrition - or starvation.

The UN has cautioned that up to 14 million people are at danger of starvation, which, the group said, has rose intensely since the Saudi and Emirati-led coalition imposed a month-long blockade of Yemen just over a year ago.

The group emphasized, since then, trade imports of food through Yemen's central airport in Hodeidah have rejected by over 55,000 metric tons a month.

It cautioned, "Any further decline in imports could likely lead directly to famine".
