Drugs and illegals immigrants were discovered when Malaysian authorities launched a series of raids this month in an effort to crack down on human trafficking.
A human trafficking syndicate was busted by Melaka authorities and 17 illegal Indonesian migrants and three locals were arrested and illicit substances worth 519,350 ringgit (US$124,121) were found during three separate raids.

Acting on tip-offs, Melaka police raided locations in Pulau Upeh, Batu Berendam and Malim, the China Press reported. From 2:30 pm on November 16 to 4:30 am of November 17, officers raided a place in Batu Berendam, where two Indonesian men and two locals were arrested.
At the same time in Malim, seven Indonesian men, two Indonesian women and a local man were arrested and police found methamphetamine worth 519,350 ringgit in a room rented by the human trafficker.
On November 5, six Indonesians, including two women, were intercepted and arrested by police on Upeh Island while they were attempting to enter Malaysia illegally on a boat.
All suspects were detained under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling Act (ATIPSOM) 2007, Section 15 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959 and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
