Amman, Nov. 19 (Petra) -- Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez Monday received former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in a meeting that tackled the importance of fostering bilateral cooperation as well as political developments in the Middle East.
A host of issues came up during the discussion, yet no topic defined the former Turkish premier's visit more than the Palestinian issue and the crisis in war-ravaged Syria.
The two sides called for a political solution to the Syrian crisis that preserves the unity of the Arab country and its people, urging further endeavors to fight terrorism and extremism.
"Jordan takes pride in its ties with Turkey that are based on mutual respect", said the Senate chief, pointing out the solid and robust historic ties and cooperation, consultation and coordination between the leaders of the two countries.
Al-Fayez, further, highlighted Turkey's supportive position of the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy places, and hailed Ankara's support of King Abdullah's rejection of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
"We look forward to an economic partnership with Turkey, not a competitive one, due to regional instability", Al-Fayez told Davutoglu, urging more Turkish investment in Jordan.
For his part, Davutoglu said his country is proud of its relations with Jordan, especially in the political, economic and investment domains. He also commended the Kingdom's role in safeguarding Islamic holy sites and its efforts to bring about peace and stability to the Middle East.
"We view Jordan as a friend and ally in regional cooperation", Davutoglu told Al-Fayez, expressing satisfaction with the level of relations between Ankara and Amman.
