(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Nov 19 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit called Monday for launching "real" and "fruitful" partnership between state and private sectors to achieve sustainable development's goals.
Abul-Gheit made his remarks in a speech at the opening of the second edition of Arab Week for Sustainable Development at the League headquarters in Cairo.
The four-day event is held under the slogan "Launching toward Work" with a special participation by two main partners; World Bank and United Nation.
The state's role and presence in development domains is indispensable, particularly in Arab countries, he said, noting the true challenge lies in assigning a development role for the government that does not conflict with private sector's role or limit its aspiration for success and innovation.
Abul-Gheit also stressed the importance of creating a successful relationship between the state and private sectors which would lead to their prosperity together, noting launching toward work is the only way to achieve the economic, social, and environmental goals of sustainable development.
Development remains the "golden" path toward achieving security and stability aspired by Arab societies and governments, he said, adding that attaining economic growth and prosperity would boost Arab societies' immunity against terrorism, extremism, and chaos.
The development process in Arab countries is constantly obstructed by the continued violence and tension, Abul Gheit noted, adding Arab societies have enormous and unlimited potentials for success and excellence. (end) mfm.rg.ma
