Turkey rescues 44 refugees off Aegean island


(MENAFN) The Turkish coast guard has saved up to 44 illegal migrants trapped stranded on an island in the Aegean Sea.

The coast guard confirmed that the migrants, attempting to illegally cross into a Greek island, had to stay overnight on Yumurta island in Turkey's western Balikesir province over bad weather state.

The force carried out a rescue mission at about 4:00 a.m. local time after one migrant contcted the emergency service for help.

The state-run Anadolu Agency revealed that the coast guard crews have saved all the refugees.
