(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Msheireb Properties was one of the winners at the World Smart City Awards held last week at the Smart City World ExpoCongress in Barcelona.
Msheireb Properties, Qatar's leading sustainable real estate developer and a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), received one of the seven awards for recognising Smart Cities.
Some 47 finalists were selected out of more than 473 entries from 57 countries worldwide for this edition, during the awards ceremony on November 14.
The number of entries this year represents a 53% increase compared to the previous
edition last year.
Msheireb Properties was recognised for the companies' flagship development, Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD), the most innovative and successful project being implemented and developed in the fields of
governance and finance.
MDD demonstrated high levels of governance and finance practices through all phases of development, across the more than QR20bn project.
'The people of Qatar are proud today of this great achievement and global recognition. MP competed and won against some of the most prominent companies responsible for developing Smart City projects around the world, Msheireb Properties acting CEO Ali al-Kuwari said, adding that this award reiterates the position of Msheireb's flagship development project, MDD, as a globally recognised smart and sustainable city. 'It also highlights Qatar as a leader, supporting the new trend of smart and sustainable cities regionally and globally.

The Governance and Finance Award is one of several awards received by Msheireb Properties, cementing its track record of success and achievements.
Such feat also reiterates the capability of Qatari companies to develop large-scale, smart and sustainable cities, with the MDD project, currently considered the second smartest city in
the world.
Msheireb recently won prestigious international awards this year from multiple prominent entities including the RoSPA awards for health and safety, two coveted awards at the 2018 Qatar Sustainability Awards, and additional awards from the National Programme for Conservation and Energy (Tarsheed), among others.
