Pakistan- ZTBL issues notices to farmers in Khyber for written off loans

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Kisan Association in tribal areas on Saturday criticised Zari Taraqyati Bank Limited that sent them notices to pay loans that were waived off years ago

Office bearers of the association said that the bank has put farmers of Khyber tribal district asking them to pay their loans.

The farmers said that the bank had waived off their loans through a notification in 2011 and then they issued notices to them after seven years to pay the loans.

The bank also warned to send them to jail if they failed to return the loan along with interest. The farmers said that they had suffered massive losses in terms of life and property due to militancy and remained in camps for years.

The years long militancy had taken a toll on their lands and machinery they bought for cultivation, they said, adding that several farmers who took loans have passed away in war on terror.

Tariq Afridi, a local farmer, said that asking them after so many sufferings to pay loans was unjust and hoped that the bank would withdraw the notices.

He said they would move the Peshawar High Court if the bank did not withdraw the notices.
