GREENSBURG, Pa. - Nov. 17, 2018 - PRLog -- Newhaven Court at Lindwood's Director of Resident Care Services, Linda Clawson has made quite an impression on both the residents and the team at the IntegraCare-operated senior living community.
"Linda brings a foundation for us. Linda is our glue," said Newhaven Court at Lindwood Executive Director Lori Grant. "A lot of us wouldn't know what we would do without Linda, especially with the day-to-day challenges."
The Pennsylvania Health Care Association (PHCA) certainly noticed the work Clawson has done while leading the largest department in the community. In her seven years at Newhaven Court at Lindwood, Clawson has used her dedication and detail-oriented approach to overcome many challenges.
The PHCA presented Clawson with a Hero Award as she was named Nurse of the Year during the PHCA's annual convention held at Valley Forge Casino Resort from Nov. 13-15.
She was among seven of the commonwealth's best healthcare professionals honored as 2018 Hero Award winners for their extraordinary contributions toward the care of the state's seniors.
More than 100 nominations were submitted by facility administrators and staff, and winners were selected by the PHCA awards committee.
"Linda puts her job and others before herself and is selfless in ensuring that quality care is provided to her residents," a PHCA release announcing the award stated. "In one incident, she had sacrificed her Christmas holiday in order to tend to her residents and ensured none of them were injured during a sprinkler pipe burst on the cold morning of December 17 (2016)."
When a sprinkler pipe burst and flooded much of Newhaven Court at Lindwood in December 2016, Executive Director Grant, who was PHCA Executive Director of the Year in 2017, and Clawson spearheaded an efficient evacuation of residents who were temporarily relocated to a nearby hotel and a rehabilitation nursing center.
"I think the best part of my job is the residents and the staff themselves," Clawson said. "My parents are gone and now I am in a building full of people who are like my parents and my grandparents. The staff here, I spend more time with them than I do my own family, so this is my true work family. That's probably the best part of my job, making sure I can have a better day for the staff and a better day for the residents here."
IntegraCare Executive Director of Sales and Marketing Eric Walker said Clawson's leadership abilities have made a huge impact on the entire community.
"Linda is such a true asset to the Newhaven Court at Lindwood team," Walker said. "She is a leader who has helped team members and residents navigate through challenging times as well as the everyday routine that is so important to making our community a great place to work and live."
"Linda is a rock to our community and has proven time and time again that she will be there, quietly doing what she loves best, leading by example and being supportive of all those who need it," added Shannon Joyce of the Newhaven Court at Lindwood team.
