(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Government today blamed Speaker Karu Jayasuriya for the political crisis escalating in the country.
Cabinet spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said that the Speaker had failed to act independently in Parliament.
Rambukwella said that the Speaker had not followed the advise of President Maithripala Sirisena.
He said that the President had advised the Speaker to follow the Constitution and Parliament procedure to submit the motion of no-confidence against the cabinet of Mahinda Rajapaksa.
However Rambukwella said that the Speaker had violated Parliament procedures to pass the no-confidence motion.
Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said that the Government was not given the amended copy of the no-confidence motion before Parliament sessions began today.
He said that the Speaker had also not taken action against a United National Party member who had a knife in Parliament yesterday.
Samarasinghe said that Government members had protested at the seat of the Speaker over his failure to take action against the United National Party member.
"The Speaker is responsible for everything that happened today," he said.
Samarasinghe said that the actions of the Speaker paved the way for the international community to be given the wrong picture of Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
