Jordan, Iraq to launch joint industrial zone


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Nov 16 (KUNA) -- Jordanian Minister of Industry and Trade Tariq Hammouri and his Iraqi counterpart Saleh Al-Jabouri agreed to launch a joint industrial zone along the borders to promote trade exchanges, and economic and investment cooperation.
During their talks on Friday, the two men agreed an agenda of the practical steps to launch the zone as of next week, according to a statement by the Jordanian ministry on Friday.
Al-Jabouri accompanied Iraqi President Barham Saleh on a visit to Jordan.
Hailing the project as a strategic one, he and Hammouri agreed to task technical teams from both countries with review the blueprint of the project and rehabilitate Turaibil Border Compound on the Iraqi side of the borderline.
The value of Jordanian exports to Iraq hit USD 425 million in the first eight months of 2018 while its imports from there stood at USD 1.5 million in the same period. (end) ab.gb
