Qatar- Al Rumaihi stars as Al Rayyan event begins

Doha: Qatari rider Mubarak Yousuf Al Rumaihi had a fantastic day at the Qatar Equestrian Federation's (QEF) Outdoor Arena, clinching victories in two events on the opening day of the Al Rayyan International Show Jumping Championship yesterday.

Al Rumaihi secured his first win in the 120/130cm event when he guided Viking D in a flawless routine to complete the round in 59.19 seconds. The victory also earned him a prize cheque of €1,250.

Daydreamer EC, ridden by Saeed Nasser Al Qadi, completed the same task in 64.27 seconds to win second place, which came with a prize of €1,000. Jaber Rashid Al Amri, who was astride Canavaro De Muze (E.T.), booked the remaining spot on the podium.

Al Amri's horse completed the routine in 64.60 seconds and won €750 in prize money.

Later, Al Rumaihi went on to dominate the proceedings with a brilliant double when he won both first and second places in the feature event of the day - the Special Two Phases, 140 cm category.

He was the fastest in the event astride his reliable 16-year-old gelding Vivaldi K, clocking 30.56 seconds to win the biggest prize of the day, €1,925.

The promising rider went on to impress the crowd at the QEF Arena again when he guided his 12-year-old stallion Bolandro in another flawless ride which lasted 34.49 seconds as Al Rumaihi got richer by another €1,575.

Clinton, with Olympian Hamad Ali Al Attiyah in the saddle, clocked the third fastest time to win €1,050. The 2018 Asian Games bronze medallist, Al Attiyah's 11-year-old gelding completed the task with no errors in 36.87 seconds.

The series - which was launched in 2014 - is organised by QEF in cooperation with Al Shaqab, a member of Qatar Foundation.

More than 100 horses are featuring in the three-day event, with a total prize bag of €61.000 on offer for winners.

Riders from Qatar, Canada, France, Jordan and Morocco are featuring in the event. The Al Rayyan Championship is a two-star tournament with nine competitions spread across three days.

The feature event which will take place tomorrow will be the Grand Prix, a qualifier for the World Cup and a round of the Arab League.
