(MENAFN) Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences declared that a strong earthquake of a 6.5 magnitude has ratted near the coast of Russia's far eastern Kamchatka peninsula.
A representative of the Russian Academy of Sciences confirmed that the quake took place early Thursday morning local time.
Meanwhile the epicenter was determined in the Kamchatka Bay at a depth of 76.2 km, 78 km south of the village of Ust-Kamchatsk.
The earthquake was sensed in many areas of the Kamchatka Territory, as multiple aftershocks followed the quake.
