PESHAWAR: After two days of wait, Pakistani security forces and police to receive the dead body of Pakistani police officer Tahir Dawar from Afghan authorities at Torkham border today , Pakistani officials at Torkham border told TNN on Thursday.
Dawar was killed and his body was dumped in eastern Afghanistan two days back.
Afghan government has confirmed the recovery of mutilated dead body of Pakistani Police officer who was abducted by armed men from Islamabad on October 26, Pakistani foreign office said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
'Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed the Pakistan Embassy in Kabul that a body was found by locals in Dur Baba district of Nangarhar Province, yesterday. The Afghan side has confirmed that the service card of Superintendent of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Mr. Tahir Khan Dawar has also been recovered with the body' the statement further said.
Dur Baba is a popular transit route for non-custom goods' supply from Afghanistan to Pakistan and located adjacent to Bazaar Zakhakhel area in Khyber district. The basis of ISIS and TTP are located at a distance of few miles in Achin and Dehi Bala districts of eastern Afghanistan Nangarhar province.
Reports of his death in Afghanistan surfaced after images of Superintendent of Police Rural Peshawar Tahir Dawar went viral on social media on Tuesday . A chit was placed on the mutilated body which claimed that Daesh known is ISIS Pakistan chapter had killed the police officer.
However in a statement issued on Wednesday, the spokesman of banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Muhammad Khurasni denied reports that they were behind the killing. He warned reporters to avoid spreading misinformation about TTP involvement in the killing of Tahir Dawar otherwise they would be punished for it.
The Pakistani foreign office said that after the handover of the body to the local police, it was brought to Mohmand Dara district and is being transferred to Jalalabad by the Afghan authorities. The body could not be received by the Consul General of Pakistan in Jalalabad by 3 pm Wednesday, the statement said and added that the body would be transferred to Pakistan via Torkham border after completion of necessary formalities.
It further said that Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in close contact with the Afghan Embassy, while the Pakistan Embassy in Kabul is also in touch with the Afghan Foreign Ministry, since Tuesday night. Further details in this regard would be shared as and when received, the statement said.

A police team led by SP headquarters Peshawar Abdul Salam Khalid has been waiting at Torkham border in Landikotal to receive the dead body since Tuesday night.
Talking to media on Wednesday, he said guard of honor would be presented to the body of slain police officer in Pakistani Consulate in Jalalabad first and then after completion of necessary process, it would be transferred to Torkham border. Abdul Salam said that they were in close contact with the officials in Pakistani consulate in Jalalabad.
Hailing from North Waziristan, Tahir was serving as SP Rural Peshawar at the time of kidnapping. He was picked up by armed men soon after he left his home in Islamabad for Peshawar.
Meanwhile Ahmaduddin, brother of the slain police officer, told reporters that funeral of Tahir Dawar would be held in Hayatabad town of Peshawar rather than his hometown Waziristan. He said the decision was taken in consultation of elders from Dawar tribe. The time of the funeral would be decided once the dead body is arrived in Pakistan.
Elders from Dawar tribe and Waziristan youth held several protests and meetings with officials concerned for the early recovery of fellow tribesman Tahir Dawar since his abduction. They are deeply saddened by the gruesome killing of SP Dawar and that too in Afghanistan, said a member of Waziristan Youth.
