DOHA: Key themes surrounding the impact of technology on global healthcare have been explored by US physician and innovator Roni Zeiger through the ‘Education City Speaker Series', launched by Qatar Foundation (QF) as a platform for knowledge-sharing and public interaction with experts.
The former Chief Health Strategist at Google spoke to members of QF's community and the wider public about ‘How Technology Is Changing Healthcare' during the event at Qatar National Library (QNL), at Education City, before answering questions posed by the audience.
The Education City Speaker Series is designed to provide the community in Qatar with an opportunity to benefit from the perspectives of experts and thought-leaders across a range of fields, while sharing their own views and opening up discussions. Its talks, which are free to attend and open to all, reflect QF's commitment to encouraging dialogue, discourse, social interaction, and critical thinking.
During his career, US physician Zeiger has developed the Google Flu Trends service and ‘Smart Patients', which enables patients and carers to share their healthcare experiences and knowledge, and has also served as a clinical instructor of medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.
'This is the most exciting time to be in healthcare, Zeiger said. 'Advances in robotic surgery, targeted therapy, and the use of AI to analyze medical data are all transforming healthcare.
'We still have much to do. Not only do we have to continue to conduct biomedical research and look for breakthroughs, we must also do the basics, which means designing healthcare systems holistically so they best serve society.
