Algeria foils thousands illegal migration attempts


(MENAFN) Algerian border guards were confirmed to have foiled 40,000 illicit migration attempts to enter Europe per year.

Algeria's efforts to prevent the illegal entry of to Europe come in line with its tactics to fight unlawful migration.

The statement was made by Hassan Kacimi, a director responsible for immigration at the Algerian Interior Ministry, as reported Algerian radio Channel I.

"The majority of people who try to enter illegally Algeria from the southern border are from 23 African countries located in West, Sahel and Central African regions," the director stated.

"The Algerian government has set the challenge of combating illegal immigration as a priority," Kacimi noted.

"Some 5 million U.S. dollars have been earmarked in 2018 to fight this scourge," he further added.
