Oman- State Council and Majlis A'Shura discuss Selective Goods Tax Law


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The State Council and Majlis A'Shura on Tuesday held the first joint meeting of the fourth annual session of the sixth period, chaired by H E Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman, State Council.

The meeting was held in the presence of H E Khalid bin Hilal al Mawali, Chairman, Majlis A'Shura, Sheikh Dr Al Khatab bin Ghalib al Hinai, vice chairman of the State Council, members of State Council and Majlis A'Shura and secretaries general of both councils.

H E Dr Mantheri, in his opening speech, said that the session would discuss the articles bearing differences between the two councils pertaining to the 'Draft Law of the Selective Goods Tax', based on the Royal Order of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

The Draft Law on the Selective Goods Tax has been passed to the Council of Oman to produce a unified view on the articles between the two councils and the articles which the State Council has considered to add to the draft.

The State Council chairman added that the joint meeting came within the scope of the Council of Oman and the framework of cooperation and joint coordination as called for by His Majesty the Sultan, to serve the nation and strengthen the concept of the state of institutions and law.

He explained that during the third annual session of the sixth period, the two councils had examined the draft of the Selective Goods Tax Law referred to by the Council of Ministers, where the two councils then agreed on 38 articles, and 18 articles which had been approved with some amendments.

While the views differed on three articles (22, 49, 57), in addition to two new articles proposed by the State Council, the council chairman said that it was in accordance with the procedures followed by the work between the two councils during the past, the material in question has been presented at the meeting, after consultation with the respective councils, which will be discussed and approved.

H E Dr Mantheri praised the meaningful discussion that prevailed at the joint session.
