OECD countries see decline in unemployment


(MENAFN) Member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recorded a decline in the levels of their unemployment in September.

The OECD announced on Tuesday the unemployment rate to have stood at 2.5 percent, a 0.1 percent month-on-month fall.

The number of jobless people within the OECD 36 countries, the organization confirmed, reached 33.1 million during the period.

Greece topped the list with the highest unemployment rate of 19 percent in July, while Spain posted 14.9 percent with both Czechia and Japan hitting the lowest rate at 2.3 percent.

It added: "the OECD unemployment rate for youth [people aged 15 to 24] remained stable at 11 percent in September, while the rate for people aged 25 and above declined by 0.1 percentage point to 4.5 percent."
