(MENAFN) Ethiopia's Attorney General Berhanu Tsegaye declared that 27 senior military officials have been nabbed over claims of mass fraud.
Tsegaye added that the fraud-linked crimes which took place from 2011 to 2017, included buying goods with the value of a USD 2 billion, such as an aircraft, ships and cranes, without tender.
Tsegaye confirmed that the military-related conglomerate Metal and Engineering Corporation (MeTEC), which is building many mega infrastructure projects, is believed to have been behind the wide majority of fraud actions.
"MeTEC officials and civilians close to them were involved in the illicit purchases of a plane, ships, cranes and other equipment and pocketed a portion of the purchased money," according to Tsegaye.
