DOHA: The Ambassador of France to Qatar Franck Gellet has said that the first edition of the Paris Peace Forum will help raise the awareness that, as people of good will, we need to remain vigilant.

'This Forum, that is gathering around 10,00 participants from all over the world, will showcase in the next two days, more than 120 concrete governance projects. Its objective will be to allow all actors of the world governance, representatives of States, international organizations, NGOs, private companies, to debate the future of international order and how to concretely face its challenges and threats, he said while addressing a ceremony at his residence to commemorate centenary of the 1918 Armistice on Sunday evening.

The Ambassador added: 'Inspired by the model of COP21 which led to the signing of the Paris Agreement on climate change, the format aims to revive international cooperation and improve global governance in five key areas: global peace and security, environment, development, new technologies, and inclusive economy.

'We are much honored that His Highness the Amir responded positively to the invitation of the president of the French Republic. The views of Qatar are key for all of us who, in Doha, know better the challenges our friends are facing, but also because of Qatar's dedication to international law, multilateralism, dialogue and mediation; and given her active role on the international scene in support to development, humanitarian aid and disaster relief, he added.

He further said, 'The temptation of self isolation and unilateralism is certainly another threat. These threats call for answers based on the fundamentals of international law, multilateralism, respect of universal human rights, the dignity of persons, of nations and of countries, the respect of our global commons such as climate, environment, natural ended resources. Answers also inspired from the example of the French-German reconciliation.
