Oman- 48th National Day celebrations lighting being tested

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Lighting decorations that adorn different parts of the city to mark the 48th National Day are being tested for safety and quality.

An official from the Supreme Committee for National Day Celebrations said that decoration lights will be tested extensively on different stretches before being switched on completely from Thursday.

The official said that street decorations and lighting have been kept 'simple and meaningful' keeping the city's aesthetics in mind. 'This year too the celebrations will be more or less on the same lines as in the past few years,' he said.

To mark the 48th National Day celebrations, a total of 2,500 colourful light decorations have been put up from Muscat to Grand Mosque and 4,000 national flags placed from the Al Bustan roundabout to the Barka roundabout, the official said.

The lighting designs, that have been put up at select spots in the city, revolve around traditional jewellery, musical notes and flowers. 'We wish to showcase something highlighting our heritage and traditions.'

There will be 30-minute fireworks in Amerat and Al Khoudh on November 18. The official said there will be a fireworks show in Dhofar too on National Day.

He said that preparations for this year's event had started immediately after last year's National Day celebrations. 'While designing the lighting, the designers had to keep in mind its effect on traffic movement and visibility. Energy saving lights have been in use for the purpose for the past ten years. The lights and decorations will stay on till the month-end.'
