Al Faisal looks to defend title, Khalid hopes for a better show

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Talented Omani racer Al Faisal al Zubair is looking ahead positively to defend his crown when he begins his campaign in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East at the Dubai Autodrome in Dubai, UAE, on November 16.

Joining him in the 16-race series will be his countrymate and teenager, Khalid al Wahaibi.

Following the opening two races on November 16-17, the series will see further five meetings that will culminate with the official support race to the 2019 Formula One Bahrain GP at Sakhir on March 29-31, 2019.

Besides Dubai, the other race venues are in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.

Al Faisal, who drives for the Lechner Racing Middle East, became the first Omani and the fourth Arab driver to win the title last year.

Speaking ahead of the opening race weekend, Al Faisal said, 'I am looking forward to competing again in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East Championship. It was a great season last year. I am looking to come back even stronger. I will be doing two days of testing and then head into the race weekend. Hopefully, I can come out of the round on top to begin my title defence on a solid footing.'

Meanwhile, Khalid, who last year won the Rookie title and bagged the top honours in the Silver class, hopes to keep improving to move up through the ranks.

'I am eager to start my second season,' said Khalid.

'My debut season went quite well, but I do think we could have done a bit better and hopefully, I can prove it this year.

'I haven't been in the car since the past three months, so I am keen to be back on the tracks with the opening round.'
