Qatar- Mowasalat participates in IRU World Congress in Oman

DOHA: Mowasalat (Karwa), Qatar represented by its Karwa Driving School and in collaboration with Karwa Motors Oman participated in the World Congress International Road Transport Union (IRU), held in Muscat, Oman from November 6 to 8 2018.

IRU World Congress is conducted once in two years and this year's version is to address important issues and solutions for road transport. The industry to embrace and prosper from new technology, innovation and fresh business models, to appeal to regulators and politicians to enhance trade and connectivity, to attract, and retain, the right people to work in our industry and the future Vision, with green energy solutions.

As a member of IRU organization, and the only driving school to train and deliver Agreement of Dangerous Goods by Road, under IRU academy programs and certify the courses accredited by IRU.

Robert Makondo, presented in the session to elaborate on how Karwa Driving School, Mowasalat- Qatar is able to serve the Qatar Transport Industry carrying the responsibility to move people around safe and smart, through professional qualifications and driver education.

Robert said: 'That was possible by bringing state-of-the-art facilities and globally recognized training programs accredited by renowned institutions. With our association with IRU in the last 8 years, we have upgraded our training programs with seven accreditations due to which we are able to deliver training to big corporate giants like, QP, Shell, Total, Kharama, Mwani and such.

Khalid Kafoud, Government Relations & Media Manager said that 'We successfully delivered in Qatar, in October 2018, Road/traffic/driving safety event partnering with major stakeholders in Qatar like National Traffic Safety Committee, Traffic Department & Ministry of Transport & Communications, collaborating with IRU Academy.

The program had participation of international experts and speakers from GCC, UK, Europe & Qatar to conclude and put recommendations for action plan mandates to ensure significant improvements for the benefit of the society and the country, Qatar.

'Karwa Motors, in which Mowasalat is a principal shareholder, a vehicle manufacturing & assembly plant in Duqm Sultanate of Oman, also partnered & participated as a Silver Sponsor showcasing the brand and project details. Karwa Motors is a joint strategic collaboration between the State of Qatar and Sultanate of Oman, represented by Mowasalat, Qatar, and Oman Investment Fund.

The factory will be built in an area of 100,000 square meters, and plan to have annual production capacity of 1,000 buses, including school buses, public transport buses and tourist buses of all kinds.

Karwa Motors will invest about $70m in the first phase of the project, which features the ability to become an automotive-based manufacturing cluster in Duqm over the long term. The commercial production of the plant is expected to begin by the second quarter of 2020. Said Mr. Eissa Al-Mosalmani, Project Manager of Karwa Motors.
