Afghanistan- Grand alliance to name presidential candidate soon

The alliance's leadership council met in Kabul and announced if they won the April 20 presidential election, they would create a prime ministerial post and the president and the prime minister would have three deputies each.

Ahmad Shah Massoud, member of the grand alliance leadership council, told a joint press conference with other leaders that the alliance had prepared a list of prospective presidential candidates and one of them would be chosen as a consensus candidate soon.

Massoud said the Constitution allowed two deputies to the president, but they would consider three deputies and as many deputies for the prime minister and for this purpose, if they win the election, a presidential decree would be issued to convene a loya jirgainfo-icon

The grand political alliance is a coalition of Junbish-i-Milli Islami party led by first vice president Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, Jamiat-i-Islamiinfo-icon

New National Front party led by Anwarul Haq Ahadi parted ways with the alliance a few days ago over the creation of a prime minister post and three deputies to the president.

Ahmad Zia Massoud warned the election commission that the country could descend into a serious political crisis if the electoral body failed to separate biometrically verified and non-verified votes in the next year's presidential election.
