Ghani vows to promote Paktika to next grade in a week


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) SHARANA (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Saturday vowed to promote southeastern Paktika province to a second grade province within one week and promised construction of an administrative complex worth 1.3 billion afghanis.

The president, who arrived in Paktika earlier in the day, addressed a huge public gathering in Sharana, the provincial capital, during his day-long trip.

Ghani said residents of Paktika had rendered huge sacrifices for stability and progress of the system, but they were deprived of sufficient development work.

The president promised the restive province would be promoted to the second grade province from its current third grade and all routes leading to districts would be opened.

He said the Paktika University would be expanded and its surrounding walls would be constructed by the operational unit of the Presidential Palace and the Higher Educationinfo-icon

The president said special attention would be paid to forests of Paktika and a factory for pine-nuts processing would be installed to export the dried fruit to China and other countries.

He said an administrative complex worth 1.3 billion afghanis and an auditorium for 149 guests would be constructed in the province.

On energy sector, Ghani promised $60 million power projects for Paktika and converting the current 75-bed Sharana hospital to 150-bed.

The president also pledged to pay attention to all legal demands of the people of Paktika.

Provincial Council Head Bakhtyar Gul Zadran stressed the President should implement demands of the people of Paktika.
