(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MUSCAT, Nov 2 (KUNA) -- Sultanate of Oman and Britain have worked out a joint defense pact aimed at regulating the two nations' commitment to mutual defense, organizing personnel training and serving common interests at the military level.
Official Oman News Agency (ONA), citing an official statement on Friday, said the agreement was reached following official discussions between the Omani official in charge of defense affairs, Badr bin Saud Al-Bousaidi and the visiting British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson, who arrived in the sultanate earlier today on a two-day official visit.
The statement affirmed the two sides' approach toward promoting the historic and strategic relations between Muscat and London for boosting regional and international security and peace.
The new accord signals opening a new chapter in the history of relations between the two countries, whereby both sides will unify efforts to ensure their security and sovereignty, the official statement said.
Moreover, the two officials reviewed during their meeting means of enhancing the mutual military cooperation and discussed diverse issues of joint concern.
Oman and Britain have been bonded with close relations since many years ago, covering diverse spheres including the military sector. (end) ma.rk
