Kuwait- CAN participates in humanitarian mission in Mauritania


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Nov 1 (KUNA) -- The National Campaign for Awareness of Cancer (CAN) announced Thursday that a team from Kuwait would join a Gulf-Arab humanitarian campaign in Mauritania, as of today.
A group of doctors, media personnel and volunteers will participate in the ten-day campaign beside other teams from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Syria, Jordan, Sudan and Egypt, said the deputy head of the campaign and Secretary General of the Gulf Union for Fighting Cancer (GUFC), Khaled Al-Saleh.
His statement came in a a press release, marking departure of the Kuwaiti team.
The Kuwaiti team will train Mauritanian doctors on early detection of cancer and visual inspection, and a program to raise awareness of the importance of prevention and early detection.
The team mission includes meetings with Mauritanian officials and stakeholders to support awareness programs and partnership, Al-Saleh explained.
He noted that the team would implement a plan of action developed in cooperation between the Gulf Union for Cancer Control, the Association of Arab Physicians for Cancer Control and the Mauritania Society against Cancer. The team was provided with a large quantity of educational books and medical equipment donated by the Kuwait Patients' Aid Fund. Al Saleh thanked the Sidra Society for psychological care of cancer patients, the International Islamic Charitable Organization, the Direct Aid Society and the official Kuwaiti authorities for supporting the trip, which made it easier for doctors, administrators and volunteers to carry out this humanitarian mission.(end) ays.tab.nhq
