Oman- Drill held to deal with missile strikes targeting civilians


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A drill as part of the ongoing exercises Swift Sword 3 and Al Shomoukh 2 was held at the Seeb Sports Stadium recently. The drill displayed the national capabilities in dealing with missile strikes targeting civilian and populated sites.

It also measured the response time of the forces, the ability of mobile and field hospitals to conduct their duties, and raise the efficiency of staff in various sectors and specialties during this task.

The drill also tested the mechanism of dealing with state military, security and civilian institutions on the grounds that this missile caused heavy loss to life and property.

The events were supported by Maj Gen Abdullah bin Ali al Harthy, chairman of the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA) in the presence of senior officers of Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), ROP, other security and civil services.

The sectors of the National Committee for Civil Defence were represented by Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), ROP, PACDA, the ministries of Health, Environment and Climate Affairs, and Social Development, as well as the sectors of the security and civil support agencies. The activities of the demonstration began immediately after a report was sent to the operations centre of PACDA stating that a ballistic missile fell on the sports stadium. The specialised forces, vehicles and equipment rushed to the incident site.

Appropriate measures were taken to deal with human casualties and material damage. Col Mohammed bin Abdullah al Hatali, SAF said, 'Specialised units from SAF participated in the exercise. The ammunition, technical and ambulance teams played an effective role in coordination with the ROP and other civil and supporting organisations.'

Col Mubarak bin Salim al Araimi, director general of Operations and Training at PACDA, said that coordination among different stakeholders at the exercise was manifested as practical demonstration.

Lt Col Juma bin Masoud al Hinai, from SAF, said that specialists from SAF Engineering, Troops Supply Services, Royal Air Force of Oman and Royal Navy of Oman, in addition to technical teams from the Armed Forces Medical Services took part in the drill.

The teams diffused the remains of the explosive missile through a robot.

The event was aimed at ensuring complete harmony among PACDA, National Civil Defence Committee, SAF and other relevant stakeholders.
