Filipinos, others arrested for telecom fraud in Ilocos Norte

(MENAFN- Asia Times) Seven Filipinos, 13 Taiwanese and two Chinese nationals were arrested on Tuesday for alleged telecom fraud in Ilocos Norte in the Philippines.

According to Chief Superintendent Romulo E Sapitula, the regional director of Police Regional Office 1, the suspects were allegedly conducting illegal outbound calls going to China, the Manila Bulletin reported.

The suspects were arrested during a raid of a warehouse in Dingras in Ilocos Norte. Police recovered various communication items such as computers, telephones, 52 slot machines and other paraphernalia used in their illegal activities.

The raid was initiated by the Anti-Cybercrime Group from Camp Crame after they received a complaint from the Chinese government on the illegal activity of the suspects, who had been conducting the illegal operation for more than two years.

Sapitula said the suspects violated Republic Act 10175, also known as the Anti-Cyber Crime Law, which carries a penalty of imprisonment and a fine.
